Allotment Open Day 2019

Just a few photos from what proved to be a very enjoyable afternoon at Ormonde Road on Saturday 10th August when Wokingham Town Council's Paul Smith joined WHA to stage the 7th annual Allotments Open Day. Due to the forecast for very strong winds we decided best not to erect the 4 gazebos we had ready, but instead set to and cleared space inside the Store to accommodate our talented and jolly friends from the 'No Strings Attached' ukulele band and all our visitors.

It was lovely to see old faces and new joining in the singing and enjoying the music – and refreshments. A great selection of yummy cakes had been donated (many thanks to all our bakers) and proceeds will go to the Town Mayor's Charity (Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre).

The light-hearted 'Make a Creature out of Fruit' competition was judged by Mayor, Lynn Forbes and joint winners of the 8-16 years class were Madi and Leo whose parents Trish and Steve have just taken over a plot at Ormonde Road. Aldona's beautiful entry, which included a parrot made from a pineapple, won the adults section.

Despite the occasional heavy shower visitors were taken on inspirational guided tours of the allotments!
